Panacea weekend

Cheery effort with stanzas trite
Late lie-in after a heavy night
Slept through unbroken then lazing awake
Blinking untroubled by induced headache
Breakfast in bed and that first cup of tea
Emerge from the kitchen, served off the knee
Knock on the door and some post unexpected
Beep of the phone: an old friend just texted
Some plans for that evening and places to go
Nice one, house party, with folk that you know
Pull wide the curtains and let in the sun
Get up dressed and ready, then out for some fun
Pile in the car on a capricious whim
Drive up to the lakes, but not for a swim
Just dipping our toes in, that is the trick
Gluttons digesting their sunlit picnic
Enough of a walk to find trees and quiet places
Whispers of wind and grins on our faces
Meander back homeward as the day starts to thin
Radio’s away match with vital Reds win
Easy day spent with no formula in mind
Relaxed and easy, caring and kind
A panacea weekend, best kind of shirk
Working to live and not living to work
