You’re a hedgehog by the back-yard wall
A porcupine curled into a ball
A hermit crab clinging to your shell
Sheltering in your home-made hell
Shutting out the outside world
You’d prefer to be alone
You’ll operate in silence
Behind closed doors at home
As the voices fade around you
The sunshine dies away
Friends shrink to a contact list
Just lost interest in hearsay
This stunted negativity
Became obsessed by self
Twisted all those grand designs
With deference to wealth
You’ll tell us what you want to hear
What you think still matters
But whether far or whether near
Our old love lies in tatters
