This table of implacable black granite
ever wicks the heat away
from my bare arms:
if I leant here for long enough,
just staring into space,
that silent creeping stone
would turn me
cold to the touch;
arrange me statuesque,
rigidly poised in shirtsleeves,
beyond the reach
of further cups of tea.
