It’s all in hand

The 1st hand is warm;
It’s hand over fist,
The hands down winner,
All in its own hand,
Yet it’s all hands off.

The 2nd hand is cold,
Empty handed,
Waiting hand and foot,
Living hand to mouth
Off handouts.

The 1st hand is stuck up,
High-handed,
It’s a 2nd hand hold-up:
Hand it over,
Hand to hand,
The hand-me-downs
Are all hands on.

Now there’s blood on the 2nd hand:
It’s handmade,
Hand delivered,
Wrought by its own hand.

But the 1st hand isn’t heavy handed,
Offhand with handcuffs,
Open handed with hand grenades;
Their handclaps
Giving up a big hand,
It offers itself.

Handstands all round,
You’ve got to hand it to them,
Giving themselves to each other in marriage:
Clearly they’re not hand in glove,
Yet all each ever yearned for was to be held,
These cack-handed hands.
